Weekly Prices

The Public Abattoir, in its role as the Competent Authority for the implementation of Community Scales for the classification of carcases and the reporting of prices thereof as required by Commission Regulation (EC) 1249/2008, on a weekly basis collects and communicates to the Commission weekly prices of certain categories of beef and pork.

For beef, the said regulation establishes that the market price shall be the price paid to the supplier for the animal upon delivery to the slaughterhouse, net of the value added tax, expressed per 100 kg of carcase presented in line with the same regulation, weighed and classified at the slaughterhouse.  Member States are required to report to the Commission the average market prices of animals classified according to the following categories/classes of animals:

(D) carcases of female animals that have calved

In the case of swine, the Regulation requires Member States to weekly report the average price for pig carcases recorded for carcases weighing 60 to less than 120 kg of grade E and 120 to less than 180 kg of grade R Prices should include the value of the unprocessed offal and animal residues and shall be expressed in respect of 100 kg of cold pig carcases. Member States are also required to report the average price for piglets per head taking into consideration the average live weight of approximately 20 kilograms. Weights should refer to the weight of carcases presented in line with the EU standard and weighed and classified on the slaughterhouse
