Following the introduction  of Malta into the EU, Malta attends various meetings in Brussels to discuss issues in relation to Plant Health and Plant Propagation Material.  Most of the discussions involve the adoption of new rules which need to be adopted at a national level.  These new rules need to be transposed into national law and therefore the relevant stakeholders and the Plant Protection Board need to be consulted for any feedback/comments.  Once the consultation process ends the relevant Legal Notices or Government notices are adopted at a national level.  In addition, the Directorate also issues LNs that are adopted at a national level since there is no legal obligation by the EU, however, nationally such Legal Notices are required. Examples of national Legislation are regulations on Red Palm Weevil or Tuta absoluta.
