Entomology

Laboratory officials deal with the analysis of a diverse group of insects which are of plant health concern. In the case of a number of insect groups such as beetles, flies and other hard body insects, identification is carried out directly on the dried insect specimens. However, in the case of soft body insects slide mounts are done so as to study the detailed morphology of these insects using compound microscopy. Priority pests are Leptinotarsa decemlineata, Anaplophora chinensis, Scaphoideus titanus, Trioze erytreae Diaphorina citri, Aleurocanthus sp., Scirtothrips sp., Toxoptera citricola and Toxoptera citricida . Identification is either done locally or abroad as necessary.
