Introduction

Within the Veterinary Regulation Directorate, the Safety of the Food Chain Unit (SFCU) is responsible for the guidance, approval and inspection of all types of establishments for food of animal origin.  The Unit is divided in six sections:  

​i) Red Meat Slaughterhouses and Cutting Establishments: This section is responsible for Official Controls within establishments slaughtering domestic ungulates.

ii) White meat Slaughter and Cutting Establishments: This section is  responsible for Official Controls within establishments slaughtering Poultry and Lagomorphs. 

iii) Approved Establishments: This section is responsable for the inspection of meat processing establishments; Cold Stores for Products of Animal Origin; establishments processing milk and milk products, Eggs and Egg products and Honey.

iv) Milk Hygiene and Dairy Section: This section is  responsible for Official Controls on the dairy farms producing raw milk and sheep and goat farms producing milk and cheeslets. 

v) Animal By-Products Section: This section is  responsible for Official Controls on animal By products

vi) Fish Market, Fishing Vessels and Fishery Products: This section is  responsible for Official Controls within the Fishmarket, establishments producing Fishery products and Fishing vessels.
